Alaska Discount Adventures

Funny Moose Lodge can accomodate up to 60 people with room for more at a location close by.
Located on the Kenai River, a short scenic drive south of Anchorage. Our peak season is May 24-September 13.

The lodge is 15 miles outside of Soldotna. The lodge has 10 cabins that can hold up to 8 people while several are set up for 2 couples to share. Each cabin has a kitchen with full refrigerator, and stove. Each cabin is assigned a Freezer in our Freezer Room, and we have Vacuum Packing and mailing services for your catch. We need 6 months or more notice for groups of more than 12. For a group of 30 or more I most likely will need 9 months notice for prime fishing times for King Salmon.

The cabins are basic. No carpet, no luxuries. Cell Phone coverage is fair to good depending on the company, and WiFi is available at the lodge.

<<------------<<

If you call for info remember we are in Alaska,
from May 1 to the end of September. The time
in Alaska at this moment is above. There is a
4 hour difference from the East Coast.. so if you
Call at 9AM it is 5AM and we are grumpy before we get our first cup of coffee.

The Kenai Peninsula is the home of world record salmon, halibut and trout surrounded by limitless sightseeing opportunities, such as glaciers, whales, bears and other  Alaskan wildlife.
In addition to our self catering standard cabin accommodations with guided fishing and sightseeing packages, we offer self catering packages with deluxe cabin accommodations. Groceries are readily available in the nearby towns of Kenai and Soldotna, as are many restaurants and other services. I recommend Fred Meyers and Safeway for Groceries and Tru Value Hardware and Tackle for your fishing needs.

For those not interested in preparing their own meals, we offer vacation packages in our lodge with an option for full meal service. We offer these packages at affordable budget friendly rates.  There is also  a catering service for those interested in Breakfast and Lunch boxes on your fishing trips. Alaska Reel Cafe makes a great lunch box and breakfast and opens at 3 AM and is on the way to all of our fishing trips. They are at the corner of Highway 1 and Funny River Road. Alaska Reel Cafe in Soldotna Website

All our river guides, halibut charter captains, and pilots are mature, Alaska resident professionals, providing you with boats, float planes and top notch equipment for your fishing or sightseeing adventure.
We book on a Saturday to Saturday basis. Please feel free to call the numbers below from 8 AM-8PM, Pacific Time if you have any questions and/or wish to speak to an owner or manager. Please leave a message for a prompt return call, if we do not answer.

There is also a 9 hole golf course nearby, so bring your golf clubs and play a round of golf as far north as is humanly possible, on the Kenai Peninsula, or rent clubs from the Golf  Course.. Carts, Clubs and all the amenities are available.  Check out Byrd Homestead Golf Course.

There is also a local vendor who will take you on a rafting and gold panning trip on a local stream.

Local groceries prices for the cabin groups are similar to Atlanta , and Other Metro Areas. With a few Exceptions.

As soon as I have them I will post the prices on rental vehicles for 2010.
I recommend a Van for large groups, and do not recommend the Humvee as the packing room in that vehicle is terrible.
Most guests who get the Humvee hate it, unless it is for 2 or fewer people.
A Ford Van or a SUV are much preferable to the Humvee.

If you want to reserve a vehicle simply, contact us by e mail with the date and time of your arrival in and what vehicle you want. The vehicle you choose will be at the airport waiting for you. After April 1, it is nearly impossible to book one of these vehicles due to sell outs and blackouts, so please book early. If you don’t know the time of arrival and have a date we can still set it up and change the time later.

Payment for the rental vehicle will be due when your balance is due. If you haven’t already made flight arrangements to Anchorage click this link SEARCH CHEAP FLIGHTS TO ALASKA

Also I suggest you consider travel insurance for your trip. Any one who has flown commercially lately has heard the horror stories and you never know what emergency you or a member of your party might run into. Here’s a link to a site INSURE MY TRIP  Clicking on the link will take you to a site that offers comparative rates from a lot of providers. Also some Platinum level credit cards, AAA, AARP, and your homeowners policy may offer some type of coverage. CHECK IT OUT !

Gravad Lox - Funny Moose Style

Mix equal amounts of Sugar and Salt. I prefer Kosher Salt
Add 1 tsp. Coriander to the mix and stir with a fork.

Place Salmon in a glass baking dish. Sprinkle Generous amount of dill and parsley over fish. Pour a touch of extra virgin olive oil to the edges of the salmon cuts and to the thinner areas of the salmon to prevent total drying of the flesh.

Cover the salmon with the Sugar/Salt/Coriander mix
to a depth of 1/8th inch. This will get very juicy fast.

Cover with foil and refrigerate for 3 days occasionally checking the mixture and replacing the salt over the salmon. You can rinse off the salmon or just scrape off the mixture when the 3 days are done. Cut the salmon against the grain and serve with Cream Cheese and Bagels or crackers.
